Encoder and Wiring
The motor-shaft encoder has a base resolution of 13PPR, a 26-pole / 13-pole-pair magnetic ring and a 100 kHz response reference. Supply the encoder separately with regulated 3.3V or 5V. Onboard output conditioning includes a 3.3 kΩ pull-up reference. Output-shaft pulses scale with the actual gear ratio; decoder edge-counting is a separate setting.
| Pin | Wire color | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Red | M1 - motor power |
| 2 | Black | GND - encoder supply ground |
| 3 | Yellow | C2 - Hall channel B |
| 4 | Green | C1 - Hall channel A |
| 5 | Blue | VCC - regulated 3.3V or 5V encoder supply |
| 6 | White | M2 - motor power |
Reverse only M1/M2 motor polarity to change rotation. Keep motor voltage away from encoder VCC, GND and signal pins. The wire colors and pin numbering above apply to the illustrated six-wire harness; check connector orientation before applying power. An external motor driver and pulse-reading controller are required for a complete controlled system.
Motor Performance
No-load speed, rated operating point and stall references describe different conditions. Do not operate continuously stalled or use the torque figures as lifting-payload guarantees. The 25 kgf·cm maximum markings on the 12V 225:1 and 450:1 columns are mechanical limits, not guaranteed continuous output.
12V
Maximum power reference 5.2 W; motor input-speed reference 10000 rpm; no-load current ≤180 mA; rated current ≤0.6 A; stall current ≤3.5 A.
| Ratio | No-load rpm | Rated torque kgf·cm | Rated rpm | Stall torque kgf·cm reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 42:1 | 240 | 1.8 | 185 | ≥8 |
| 67:1 | 148 | 2.9 | 112 | ≥12 |
| 125:1 | 74 | 5.5 | 56 | ≥20 |
| 225:1 | 44 | 10 | 33 | 25 maximum mechanical limit |
| 450:1 | 22 | 20 | 16 | 25 maximum mechanical limit |
6V
Maximum power reference 1.5 W; motor input-speed reference 4900 rpm; no-load current ≤100 mA; rated current ≤0.4 A; stall current ≤1.8 A.
| Ratio | No-load rpm | Rated torque kgf·cm | Rated rpm | Stall torque kgf·cm reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 42:1 | 115 | 1 | 90 | ≥4 |
| 67:1 | 72 | 1.5 | 55 | ≥6 |
| 125:1 | 36 | 3 | 27 | ≥10 |
| 225:1 | 21 | 5 | 16 | ≥20 |
| 450:1 | 10 | 10 | 8 | ≥25 |
Installation and Control
This gearbox is backdrivable and does not lock an unpowered load. Use a suitable external brake or holding mechanism when the application requires it. Match the selected motor voltage, allow for startup current and provide appropriate motor-driver, wiring and power protection. For low-speed operation, selecting a higher mechanical reduction usually provides a more useful torque range than heavily reducing the speed electronically; the speed-control recommendation is approximately 50–100% of nominal speed.
The optional carbon-steel bracket uses a 64.3 mm width, 20.7 mm leg and 2 mm material thickness, with approximately 53 g including screws. The opposed two-motor mounting illustration has approximately 95 mm minimum width. The staggered arrangement is approximately 48 mm wide and 105 mm long. These are installation examples requiring two separately supplied motors, not a two-motor kit.
Applications
Suitable for matched two-wheel robot drives, line-following carts, smart appliances and compact pan or positioning mechanisms requiring incremental speed or rotation feedback. Choose voltage, speed, torque and mechanical support for the intended load.
What's Included
One selected encoder motor and matching six-wire connection lead. Select motor only, motor with bracket, motor with flange coupler, motor with gear, motor with bracket and large gear, or motor with bracket and flange. Accessory mounting hardware is shown with the corresponding package. A controller, motor driver, power supply, wheels and a second motor are not included.
FAQ
Does the encoder use the motor supply?
No. Motor power is selected 6V or 12V; encoder VCC requires regulated 3.3V or 5V on the blue wire.
Is 13PPR the gearbox output resolution?
It is the motor-shaft base count. Output-shaft pulse references depend on the reduction ratio and decoder counting method.
Will it hold position without power?
The gearbox is backdrivable and has no self-locking function. Provide a separate holding solution where needed.
