Overview

DarwinFPV-M1018/M1012 is a compact GPS module designed for fast positioning and simple integration. It uses the U-BLOX protocol with a 10Hz update frequency, supports five-mode joint positioning (GPS+BDS+Galileo+QZSS+SBAS), and can track up to 48 satellites.

The module uses a high-gain omnidirectional patch antenna (18x18mm or 12x12mm) for stable reception, and includes a built-in Flash chip and farad capacitor to save configuration parameters and enable faster thermal startup.

Key Features

  • Five-mode joint positioning: GPS + BDS + Galileo + QZSS + SBAS (up to 48 satellites)
  • U-BLOX protocol, 10Hz output frequency
  • High-gain omnidirectional patch antenna for faster positioning and stable reception
  • Built-in farad capacitor for faster thermal startup
  • Dual antenna specifications: 18x18mm and 12x12mm
  • On-board indicator lights for real-time GPS status monitoring (Status Light: blue; Position Light: green)

What’s Included

  • 1 x DarwinFPV GPS (M1018 or M1012)
  • 1 x SH1.0_4P cable
  • 1 x sticker

Applications

  • FPV racing drones
  • Fixed-wing aircraft
  • Other model aircraft products

Notes

  • Keep the top of the ceramic antenna unobstructed; avoid placing it close to metal and carbon fiber.
  • For best reception, use a bracket to mount the GNSS antenna in an open area, and keep it as far as possible from VTX and receiver antennas.
  • The antenna is fragile; avoid impacts or drops. Surface scratches on the ceramic antenna may be from manual center-frequency tuning and are not necessarily defects.

Manual (Setup Notes)

Betaflight setup

  • Use a 5V power supply for the GPS module (without compass).
  • Cross-connect signals: GPS TX to flight controller RX, and GPS RX to flight controller TX.
  • Connect the GPS to an available UART TX/RX port, then enable GPS for that port in Betaflight Configurator (example shown: TX2/RX2), and set baud rate to 115200.
  • Select UBLOX protocol in the GPS configuration page.
  • Disable automatic baud rate and automatic settings if the flight controller cannot recognize GPS (Betaflight 4.3.0 firmware or above noted).
  • GPS satellites cannot be searched indoors; test outdoors in an open area.
  • If the GPS indicator light does not turn on, power the flight controller with a battery (some flight controllers require a battery for proper GPS operation). If GPS does not appear, check wiring and supply voltage.

INAV setup

  • Connect the GPS to an available UART TX/RX port, enable GPS for the corresponding port in INAV Configurator (example shown: TX2/RX2), and set baud rate to 115200.
  • Select UBLOX protocol in the INAV GPS page.
  • GPS satellites cannot be searched indoors; test outdoors in an open area.
