This Laser Sensor Range Finder Distance Measuring Module provides precise distance measurements from 0.01 m to 80 m with adjustable measuring frequency (5 Hz / 10 Hz / 20 Hz). It uses a TTL serial interface at 9600 bps for easy integration with microcontrollers, including Arduino. The module features a Class II laser (620–690 nm) and delivers high accuracy: ±1 mm (standard deviation) in single measurement mode and up to ±1 mm in continuous mode at the lowest frequency.

Protocol Notes

  • ADDR (device address): Default 80 (128).
  • Position setting: Position is 1 (count from the top); when item is 0, count from the end (FA 04 08 01 F9). Default is counting from the end.
  • CS (check byte): Sum all preceding bytes, return the inverse plus 1. In single and successive measurement data, the quotes are part of the data. Output format is ASCII; sample "123.456 m" displays bytes: 31 32 33 2E 34 35 36.

Notes

Measurement range and results can be affected by ambient light intensity, temperature (high or low), reflector strength, and target surface roughness. For higher output frequency, accuracy is reduced: at 20 Hz (FA 04 0A 14 E4) continuous measurement accuracy is about ±4 mm. At the lowest frequency (FA 04 0A 00 F8) continuous measurement accuracy is within ±1 mm. In single measurement mode (80 06 02 78), accuracy is always within ±1 mm.
