Overview

The CHIHAI MOTOR DC MOTOR 2430 brushed DC motor is a compact 12 V drive with a 20000 rpm no-load reference and a 2 mm round output shaft. Choose the package and shaft length. Quick-connect leads, a heat sink, mounting bracket, gearbox pinion and encoder versions are separate package choices.

Features

  • Permanent-magnet construction and carbon brushes with an alloy commutator.
  • 12 mm or 6.5 mm shaft projection where available.
  • Optional aluminum heat sink for thermal management.
  • Quick-connect leads can connect to the motor tabs without soldering.
  • Mounting bracket provides four base fixing holes and clearance for the motor.

12 V Performance

Operating point Speed Current Torque Output / efficiency
No load 20000 rpm 0.50 A Not separately specified Not separately specified
Stall 0 rpm 17.3 A 94.5mN.m 0 W shaft output
Maximum efficiency 17949 rpm 2.94 A 13.73mN.m 25.8 W /73.17% efficiency
Maximum output power 10500 rpm 8.9 A 47.25mN.m 51.98 W /48.67% efficiency

Maximum efficiency and maximum output power are separate operating points. The 51.98 W maximum-output point is not a continuous thermal rating. Stall current 17.3 A and stall torque 94.5mN.m are not permitted continuous operation. Use a suitably rated power supply and driver; provide adequate cooling and avoid prolonged continuous runs that overheat the motor.

The original 12 V characteristic chart below plots speed, current, output power and efficiency against torque. Its curves are retained without redrawing. No numerical 40% comparison claim is used as a purchasing guarantee.

Mechanical Fit and Gear Option

The original dimension diagrams below distinguish the 12 mm and 6.5 mm shafts. Both retain the same body and hole locations. Rear polarity marks must be read from the illustrated viewing direction, not an assumed opposite view. For a compatible 25 mm gearbox pinion, the following details apply only to the explicit pinion package:

Module / tooth count 0.4 /12
Pressure angle / profile shift 20° /0
Outside diameter Ø5.7 mm +0.05/0
Root diameter Ø3.95 mm
Bore Ø2 mm upper -0.01 / lower -0.025
Width 2.5±0.05 mm; 7° drawing feature
Two-tooth span 1.890 mm upper 0 / lower-0.03
Tip / root radius R 0.15 /R 0.20
Runout reference 0.05 to datum A
Press-in depth 4.7 mm upper 0 / lower-0.3 mm on the 6.5 mm shaft configuration

Only the 6.5 mm shaft pinion package is offered; the 12 mm source option is out of stock. The listed part includes a motor pinion, not a complete 25 mm gearbox. Other press-in depths require a different confirmed assembly; do not force a mismatched gear.

Heat Sink and Bracket Installation

Before installing the split aluminum heat sink, gently open it slightly to improve fit around the 2430 motor body. Align it, slide it onto the body and press evenly so the heat sink contacts the shell closely. Use consistent force and avoid excessive prying, shell deformation or damage to the shaft. A heat sink improves heat transfer but does not remove the need to monitor temperature.

The metal bracket drawing references 26.5 mm width,33 mm height/foot length and 3 mm thickness. Its front has an 8 mm opening and two 3.2 mm holes 17 mm apart; the foot has a 10 mm opening and four 3.4 mm holes on 16x 14 mm spacing. Fit the motor to the bracket using matching screws, tighten evenly and secure the base through its four holes. Verify screw engagement so fasteners do not damage the motor. Test the assembly at low load before use.

Connection and Encoder Option

Apply the specified 12 V DC motor supply. In the illustrated rear view, the red-marked terminal is positive. Reverse motor supply polarity after stopping to reverse direction. Quick-connect spring terminals push onto the motor tabs and lock in place; verify full engagement and strain relief. A power supply and motor driver are not included.

The Encoder Motor package contains the pictured rear encoder board and matching lead. Encoder resolution, logic supply and signal pinout are not specified in this material. Confirm those electrical details before connection; do not apply 12 V motor power to an unidentified encoder signal terminal.

Applications

Smart-car competition projects, robot mechanisms and compact precision-equipment drives where the selected speed, load, shaft and mounting fit the design.

Installation and Operation

Match supply voltage and choose by the actual load point. Do not overload or stall. Speed falls as load increases; lowering drive speed can also reduce available torque. High current requires a suitable power system. Monitor temperature, use cooling as needed and avoid prolonged continuous operation. Noise varies with speed and load. Keep wiring and loose items away from the spinning shaft.

FAQ

Is this a geared or brushless motor?

No. This is a brushed DC motor; the pinion option supplies a small motor gear without a gearbox.

Does 20000 rpm mean loaded operating speed?

No. It is the no-load reference at 12 V. Use the operating-point table for loaded values.

Does the encoder option include a feedback controller?

No. It includes the pictured encoder motor and lead; electrical details and a controller must be confirmed separately.
