iFlight Protek25 Review : A Detailed Review of the Compact FPV Drone

Introduction:
In this review, we will explore the iFlight Protek25, the smaller counterpart of the Protek family recently released by iFlight. Join us as we unpack the drone, examine its features, and share our flying experience right out of the box. From its specifications to the flying performance, we'll provide you with an in-depth analysis of this compact FPV drone.

Table of Contents:
1. Specifications
2. Unboxing
3. On the Bench
4. Flying Experience (Out of the Box)
5. Conclusion

1. Specifications:
- SucceX-D 20A Whoop AIO
- Motor: XING 1404 5500KV
- Wheelbase: 114mm
- Body Size: 91*68.7mm
- Bottom Plate Thickness: 3mm
- Top Plate Thickness: 2mm
- Top and Bottom Plate Spacing: 24mm (aluminum standoff height)
- Propeller Size: 2.5 inch
- FC Pattern: 25.5*25.5mm / 20*20mm
- FPV Cam Spacing: 20mm

2. Unboxing:
Upon unboxing the Protek25, we discovered that iFlight has included everything needed for a smooth flight experience. The drone comes pre-installed with the necessary components, with only the antenna, battery pad, and prop-guard rubber requiring manual placement. Additionally, the box contains several extras, including screws, an extra GoPro mount base, spare propellers, and various cables for the flight controller, including USB-C and micro USB options. iFlight's attention to detail is evident, as they provide ample information within the box, such as battery placement instructions, receiver connection details, and warnings about angle-mode.

3. On the Bench:
The Protek25 exhibits iFlight's progress in design compared to previous iterations. With a carbon fiber body featuring a 3mm bottom plate and 2mm top plate, the drone is remarkably sturdy for its small size. The prop-guard design is unique, sporting a combination of a half-circle and half-octagon shape, adding a distinct visual appeal to this compact drone. The HD model we reviewed houses a vista unit with a full DJI camera at the front, conveniently accessible from the side without the need for L-shaped extensions. However, the placement of the USB port on the bottom of the drone raises concerns about potential debris accumulation, as it may be exposed to sand, soil, or water when landing without a dedicated landing pad.

4. Flying Experience (Out of the Box):
As a bind-and-fly drone, the Protek25 lived up to its convenience. Binding the crossfire receiver was a straightforward process, requiring minimal effort. After connecting to Betaflight to adjust settings and rates, the drone was ready to fly with no further customization necessary. The initial hover close to the ground revealed impressive control and stability, even at low throttle. The DJI setup provided a clear and high-quality image, enhancing the overall flying experience. The absence of jello effect and responsive throttle control contributed to enjoyable flights. However, some prop wash was noticeable during abrupt maneuvers, and diving and recovering required a slight additional push. The Protek25 does emit more noise compared to other 2.5" drones, which may prompt users to experiment with different propellers for reduced noise levels.

5. Conclusion:
The iFlight Protek25 is a highly recommended drone, particularly for those seeking a

compact FPV option. Its prop guard and small form factor provide a sense of security and durability, while iFlight's meticulous attention to detail adds to the overall user experience. Although iFlight claims the Protek25 can carry a full GoPro, we recommend using it with a naked GoPro or SMO camera for optimal performance. When paired with these lightweight cameras, the Protek25 excels in delivering stable footage and capturing breathtaking shots. With its outstanding features, expect to see this drone showcasing its capabilities in stunning aerial videos across the internet.
