Overview
The CHIHAI MOTOR CHF-GW12T-10BY is a miniature geared stepper motor combining a two-phase, four-wire motor with all-metal reduction gears and a worm transmission. The compact mechanism suits positioning tasks where small size and resistance to back-driving are useful. Select a motor-only package or a reciprocating driver with or without an enclosure.
Features
- 18-degree motor steps reduced through a selectable gear train.
- 3 mm D-shaped output shaft and approximately 12 g motor mass.
- Worm transmission with power-off self-locking behavior; design loads within the actual mechanism limits.
- Attached four-wire terminal lead set.
- Driver packages include the selected new reciprocating controller.

Ratio and Torque References
The 1030:1 column is a series reference only: all 1030:1 source options have zero stock and are excluded. The remaining five nominal ratios are selectable. Holding torque and pull-out torque are different operating values, not payload ratings.
| Nominal ratio | Actual ratio | Output step angle (degrees) | Holding kgf·cm | Pull-out kgf·cm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 42 | 42.0 | 0.429 | 0.5 | 0.12 |
| 118 | 118.067 | 0.1525 | 1.40 | 0.35 |
| 236 | 236.133 | 0.0762 | 2.80 | 0.70 |
| 302 | 302.726 | 0.0597 | Maximum allowed 3.0 | 0.90 |
| 603 | 603.452 | 0.0298 | Maximum allowed 3.0 | 1.80 |

Full-Step Drive Test Reference
These values apply to the unreduced motor in full-step mode with a 39 ohm winding. Divide motor rpm by the actual reduction ratio for gearbox-output rpm. The 3.7V and 6V columns are test conditions, not alternative nominal package voltages. Choose a drive condition that avoids pronounced resonance. With a non-current-limiting driver, supply voltage equals back EMF plus current times winding resistance.
| Test voltage | Maximum frequency / motor rpm / current | Minimum frequency / motor rpm / current | 0 Hz locked current |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6V | 1400 Hz / 4200 rpm / ≤0.12 A | 800 Hz / 2400 rpm / ≤0.18 A | ≤0.30 A |
| 5V | 1300 Hz / 3900 rpm / ≤0.085 A | 700 Hz / 2100 rpm / ≤0.155 A | ≤0.25 A |
| 3.7V | 800 Hz / 2400 rpm / ≤0.085 A | 500 Hz / 1500 rpm / ≤0.125 A | ≤0.19 A |
At higher drive frequency, output torque decreases; lower frequency provides greater torque within the usable range. Do not combine separate test conditions into a guaranteed operating envelope.
Wiring and Driver Selection
Connect the two phases as White A+ / Red A- and Brown B+ / Black B-. Match phase polarity and connector orientation to the selected driver. The numbered wire list and drawn connector pin-order table differ; confirm actual orientation and phase continuity before connection. This is a stepper motor requiring controlled phase excitation; do not power the motor as an ordinary two-wire DC motor.
The new reciprocating driver board shown in the selected package is distinct from the older single-digit controller in the optional-accessory reference. The older controller reference lists an inner jumper setting for 6-18V and an outer setting for 4-6V, with a recommended 6-12V supply. Those ranges are retained only for that pictured older controller; they do not establish the input rating of the new driver. Check the actual selected board markings before power connection.
Mechanical Installation
Drawing references include a 12 mm gearbox face width, 8.50 mm hole spacing, 2 holes diameter1.4 mm, 28.6 mm body envelope and approximately75 +/-10 mm lead length. Verify the 8 mm drawing versus9 mm text shaft-length discrepancy before machining. The flange-coupler reference has diameter22 mm outer flange,diameter10 mm hub,4 holes diameter3.0 mm on16 mm reference spacing,12 mm overall axial reference,2 mm flange thickness,M3 threads and8 mm hub length; this coupler is not included in any listed package.
Applications
- Small robot and smart-home motion mechanisms.
- Miniature stage and compact positioning fixtures.
- Camera-stick and automatic rotating mechanisms with suitable external phase control.
What's Included
Motor Only: one motor with its attached four-wire lead set. Driver packages: one motor plus one new reciprocating driver, with an enclosure only when named in the option. Flange coupler, power supply and complete application devices are not included.
Installation and Operation
Do not overload, stall or force the output shaft. Avoid sustained resonance and rapid repeated reversing. Match motor phase wiring and driver power requirements before energizing. Generic seller policies and DC brushed-motor supply instructions do not apply to this two-phase stepper.
FAQ
Can the motor run directly from two DC power leads?
No. It requires a two-phase stepper driver and the correct four-wire phase connections.
Does every package include a controller enclosure?
No. Motor-only has no controller; the two driver packages differ by enclosure inclusion.
Can I order the 1030:1 ratio here?
No. It is shown only as a series reference; the five available ratios run from42:1 to603:1.
Is the flange coupler included?
No. It is a mechanical accessory reference and is not included in the listed packages.
