Wiring and Encoder Feedback
Orient the connector using the dimensional drawing and board labels before connecting power. Motor M1/M2 must match the selected winding voltage. Encoder VCC uses a separate 3.3V or 5V supply; do not apply 12V to encoder VCC. Connect A/B outputs to compatible counting inputs and verify input voltage and grounding requirements.
| Connector pin | Function | Wire color |
|---|---|---|
| 1 / M1 | Motor + | Red |
| 2 / GND | Encoder ground | Black |
| 3 / C1 | Hall channel A | Yellow |
| 4 / C2 | Hall channel B | White |
| 5 / VCC | Encoder supply, 3.3V or 5V | Blue |
| 6 / M2 | Motor - | Green |
Base resolution is 3 PPR at the motor shaft. Output pulses depend on actual mechanical reduction; nominal ratio names are rounded. Decoder counts depend on the chosen edge-counting method. A motor driver and feedback controller are required separately for closed-loop operation.
Electrical Performance
Values below apply only to the named voltage/winding and nominal ratios 10-380. No-load, rated and stall conditions are distinct. Do not operate continuously at stall. The extended 1000:1 configuration has no operating-point table here.

Installation and Use
Check shaft fit, hole pattern and cable clearance before machining a mount. The standard drawing does not establish the dimensions of the extended 1000:1 gearbox. Avoid forcing the output shaft, overload and sustained stall. Start at the correct motor voltage and verify rotation direction and feedback before connecting a load. Motor vibration, noise and temperature can change with speed, torque and load.
Applications
- Small robot and inspection-cart drive mechanisms requiring speed feedback.
- Balancing-vehicle development with suitable external control electronics.
- Compact home-robot and camera-positioning mechanisms requiring position feedback.
What's Included
- Motor Only: one selected encoder gear motor and matching six-wire cable.
- Motor + Mounting Bracket: one selected encoder gear motor, matching cable and one white mounting bracket.
Power supply, motor driver, encoder counter, controller and application hardware are not included.
FAQ
Is this the 7 PPR GM12N20 version?
No. This CHF-GM12-N20 ABHL version has a 3 PPR motor-shaft base resolution and a six-pole magnetic ring.
Can the encoder be powered from a 12V motor supply?
No. Encoder VCC requires 3.3V or 5V DC; the motor terminals use the selected winding voltage.
Does 3 PPR mean three pulses per gearbox revolution?
No. It is the motor-shaft resolution. Output-shaft pulses depend on the actual gearbox ratio and counting method.
Does the standard drawing cover 1000:1?
No. The 1000:1 option has an extended gearbox. Confirm its mounting envelope separately.
