Overview

CHIHAI CHF-GM12-N20 is the N20-size micro gear motor used wherever a small mechanism has to move slowly and with force: 3D printing pens, smart parking locks, door locks, self-balancing robots, line-following cars, camera sliders and small appliances. The gear train is all metal, the rotor is wound with pure copper, and the output shaft is Ø3 mm with a D-flat so a coupling or pulley grips without slipping.

Nine motor versions cover nominal supplies from 1.5V to 12V. Select the exact motor version, ratio, shaft length and package. Reverse rotation by reversing supply polarity. Variable-speed operation requires a suitable external DC motor drive or PWM power stage, which is not included.

Features

  • All-metal gear train. A compact metal spur-gear reduction train transfers power to the output shaft. Avoid overloads and jams.
  • Pure copper rotor winding. Low resistance and good conductivity, which shows up as more torque from the same type size.
  • Ø3 mm D-cut shaft. The flat stops a grub screw or coupling from slipping, so you do not have to over-tighten it.
  • PWM speed control and reverse. Use a compatible external motor controller for variable speed; reverse the DC supply polarity to reverse direction.
  • Ten ratios in one body. 1:10 for fast movement, 1:380 for slow, high-force actuation, with eight steps in between.
  • Two package options. The motor on its own, or with a solder-free board so it can be plugged in without soldering the motor tabs.

Configuration Guide

Motor version

The codes 05, 26, 35 and 45 identify different motor configurations. Compare their separate performance tables at the selected voltage; these codes do not establish a physical type-size ranking. K100 denotes the carbon-brush versions, which may run louder.

Gear ratio

Higher numerical ratios generally reduce output speed. Select against the configuration-specific rated speed and torque rather than assuming a fixed change between adjacent ratios.

Package and shaft length

Motor Only is the geared motor by itself, for builds that already have wiring in place. Motor + Solder-Free Board adds a small terminal board with a pre-crimped lead, so you can power the motor without soldering to its tabs. Shaft length is a separate choice: 4.4 mm, 7.7 mm or 10 mm, measured on the same Ø3 mm D-cut shaft.

The mounting bracket visible in the photos is not included in any package.

Performance by Motor Version

Each motor version has a separate performance table. Speeds are in rpm, torque is shown in gf·cm and mN·m, and current in A or mA. Rated and stall values describe different operating conditions; stall values are not continuous load ratings. A continuous-duty operating cycle is not specified.

Two gaps to know about before sizing a load: the 1:15 ratio and the 1.5V 45 type version are both sold but have no published chart. The 1:1000 column is published but not offered in this listing. Ask for the curve before committing either of the two gaps to a design.

Performance data are configuration-specific. The 1:1000 columns are series references and are not selectable in this product.

Mechanical Dimensions

The gearbox face is 12 × 9 mm with two M1.6 threaded holes at 7.7 mm centres and a Ø5.0 mm output boss. The gearbox section is 9 mm long and the motor can measures Ø12.1 mm max by 16 mm. The output shaft is Ø3 mm with a D-flat, supplied in 4.4 mm, 7.7 mm or 10 mm lengths. Unit weight is about 10 g.

Check these against your bracket before machining: the M1.6 threads at 7.7 mm centres are the only mounting points on the gearbox, and no bracket is supplied.

Match the supply to the selected motor voltage. Avoid stalling, overload, frequent starts and rapid direction reversals. Do not force the output shaft by hand while unpowered. If soldering to the motor terminals, limit heating to 2 seconds per terminal. Noise and output speed vary with load.

Applications

  • 3D printing pens and small filament drives
  • Smart parking locks, cabinet and door locks
  • Self-balancing two-wheel robots and line-following cars
  • Camera sliders, pan-tilt heads and robot arms
  • Small household appliances and dispensing mechanisms

What's Included

  • Motor Only: 1 × GM12-N20 geared motor
  • Motor + Solder-Free Board: 1 × GM12-N20 geared motor, 1 × solder-free terminal board with lead

No mounting bracket, coupling or power supply is included in either package. Shaft length is fixed per order and cannot be changed afterwards.

FAQ

Is the mounting bracket included?

No. The bracket in the photos is for illustration only. The gearbox mounts through its two M1.6 threaded holes at 7.7 mm centres.

What does the solder-free board do?

It is a small terminal board with a pre-crimped lead that plugs onto the motor tabs, so you can wire the motor without soldering. Choose the package that includes it if you do not want to solder.

How do I choose a gear ratio?

Choose the required output speed from the table for your motor version and gear ratio. Check rated torque and current at that operating point; do not divide an already geared output speed by the ratio again.

Why is the K100 version louder?

K100 identifies the carbon-brush versions. Their performance differs from the other motor configurations and operating noise may be higher; compare the separate tables for the selected voltage.

Can I run the motor at its stall torque?

No. Stall torque is measured with the shaft locked and is a limit, not a duty rating. Size the load against rated torque and keep the motor below the maximum load listed for its ratio.
