Autel EVO II Dual 640T - Enterprise Autel Robotics

I purchased this drone because I liked that it could be flown anywhere without restrictions. This was very important to me because I was considering this product for work and wanted to see how it stood up against what we currently had.

For starters, it delivered on its promise to fly anywhere without geofencing restrictions. The next thing that was great was the ease of use. The controls are intuitive and simple. You can just link up a cellphone to the remote control dock and fly the drone. The picture quality is great and video is fantastic too.

The battery life in operation is standard; about 40 minutes flight time or 30 minutes under windy conditions. My only gripe is that the battery depletes quickly (about 50%) just sitting in the case over the course of a week.

Overall though this drone is a good buy. It's performed so well that I am trying to get a few more scheduled in the budget for work.

Autel EVO II Dual 640T Enterprise Review

I have been flying the Mavic Pro ever since it came out 4.5 years ago. DJI was the unchallenged leader at that time, but their success went to their heads and ended up giving less than stellar customer service. Because of this I promised myself that I will only do business with companies who care about and respond to their customers concerns.

When I learned of the EVO-2 Pro 6k drone from Autel Robotics I was intrigued by its terrific specs. I did as much research on it as I could and was so impressed that I decided to take a chance and buy it.

I have only had the EVO-2 Pro 6K drone for a few days now and because of bad weather have only been able to in get a few flights, but I am blown away at the quality of the camera in both the still images and the video! I also think that the drone flies fantastically. On the down side, the controller is awkward in my hands and makes very precisely controlled flights difficult for me. With my Galaxy S10 cell phone attached to the controller it is very back heavy. I fly all my remote aircraft using the "pinching" method where I hold both the sticks between my thumb and index finger. The way that Autel’s controller is configured and the unbalance of it makes this very difficult so I had to rig up a lanyard attached to the controller that I can put around my neck to help support the controller in my hands. I’m hoping that in the near future, Autel may design a type of tray assembly for people who are used to flying with a tray type set up that they can buy as an accessory for a reasonable price.

There are a few small bugs still in the firmware that need to be ironed out, but they are very minor ones which should be easily correctable.

Another BIG reason that I chose this drone from Autel is because they do not take “control” of the drone that I paid for to limit where I can and can’t fly. I am a grown adult, responsible for my actions and don’t need “big brother” looking over my shoulder telling me where I can & can’t fly like some other drone companies do. Autel would be wise to keep their firmware this way as it is a big reason why many people will buy their product, along with the fact that their EVO-2 Pro 6k drone is an outstanding aerial photography platform.

The bottom line is that I could not be happier that I bought this drone! The photos & video from it are everything I have dreamed of for a long time. I take my hat off to Autel’s engineers and I look forward to future firmware improvements.

Best regards,
Tom K

Autel EVO II Dual 640T Drone Review

This purchase was for my brother Rudy...

This drone is used for both professional real estate photography and videography.
A few months afterwards, began using this drone with the Autel Smart Controller (both V1).

This drone is amazing!

First of all, the fact that it informs and warns but does not restrict flying in areas that require Authorization is priceless. It is always required to get authorization to legally fly in these areas.
Anyone who has dealt with DJI knows the issues that we law abiding remote pilots face. Here is one example from my experience. I had to wait a couple days for authorization for an assignment. I then arrived on-site, and powered on the DJI drone and got a warning from my controller that there was no SD Card. If I recall correctly, I turned off my drone to avoid any memory card issues. I then reattempted to fly and I lost my authorization. I also lost track of the number of times that DJI restricted me from flying in areas that did not require authorization or the authorization process was time consuming and failed. With my Autel, I get authorization ahead of time and get peace of mind that once I have authorization, my drone will not question me. Autel, please do not go the route of DJI with No-Fly Zones.

My only complaint is a minor one. I wish that Autel had many more intelligent flight modes that matched or exceed DJI. I am forced to learn how to do many cinematic moves manually. While I agree that manually flying looks more natural and is a great skill, sometimes I don't want to spend time manually controlling my drone. Some jobs don't require that level of cinematography. Sometimes, those intelligent flight modes incorporate nicely. And sometimes, I just want to have fun with my drone and miss that type of help so I can focus on quick fun videos especially when the weather is a bit colder for my fingers.

I do enjoy flying this drone and have no regrets selling my DJI and replacing it with Autel for professional Real Estate Photography and Videography. I love the variable aperture, the sharpness, and the colors that it produces.

I do wish it was a bit smaller for travel purposes but the size and weight helps with wind resistance so it is a good compromise. I know that this is a review for the drone and not the smart controller but buying a smart controller makes this so much more fun when you don't worry about the setup and device issues before every flight. I wish the smart controller supported the VR flying though :<

I don't really fly very far so I can't comment on reception. But I will say that I once had an assignment to record one of the tallest skyscrapers in the Chicago. So, I was in the middle of downtown Chicago and I flew as high as the antennas. The video transmission was very choppy and I got nervous about reception but the video recorded flawlessly.

If you are considering Autel I definitely recommend it. I am very happy with it!

Autel EVO II Drone Review

The other review on this Evo 2 6K was pretty spot on. I did notice while flying that it is a bit more sensitive from your movements on the controls, so you just have to get used to it if you are used to flying DJI drones, you will notice a jerky motion sometimes if you’re moving your controller around too much, but even while I was doing that on my first couple of flights, getting used to it, the video turned out buttery smooth. The gimbal worked excellent and depending on the settings you’re putting your video on, there really isn’t much need for all that much editing. It looks great straight out of the box. The 6k camera shoots incredible videos and photos and is not hard rendering videos on my Mac afterwards. I also have an iPad Pro 2020 and I’m looking forward to seeing how it works on rendering videos on that. I heard it’s great! I own 3 DJI drones, Inspire 1, Mavic 2 Zoom and a Spark. All three of those drones are great for different needs, shooting real estate videos mostly, but I’m finding that I’m using this Evo 2 6k much more at the moment because I’m very happy with the videos in the pictures that it shoots and it’s still very compact, and the rugged bundle is very nice. I would definitely recommend the rugged bundle, because you get 3 batteries in total which is plenty, and the case that comes with is very compact, rugged and very useful. It keeps your drone well protected at all times and it looks very cool. I couldn’t imagine throwing this drone into a soft bag or backpack and just letting it rumble around in there, not knowing what to expect when I take it back out. If you’re thinking about it, pull the trigger, you will be happy with your choice.
